Mount  Emei  or  Emeishan  area  including  the  Leshan  Giant  Buddha  is  another  world  heritage  site  for  its  exceptional  cultural  significance  and  natural  beauty  into  which  the   human  element  has  been  integrated  with  skill  and  care  to  produce  a  cultural  landscape  of  outstanding  quality. There  is  also  a  wide  variety  of  flora  and  fauna  endemic  to  the  area.

The  physical  landscape  includes  undulating  hills,  valleys,  deep  gullies  and  high  peaks.  This  is  also  the  place  where  famous  artists  and  poets  used  to  shower  praises  on  its  beauty  since  ancient  times.
 
Golden  Summit  Peak  and  Sheshen  Cliff  with  the  ‘sea  of  clouds’ 
hovering  beneath.  The  temple  and  surrounding  area  at  the 
summit  glows  at  sunrise,  hence  the  name.
 
At  Sheshen  Cliff,  the  phenomena  of  one’s  shadow  being  cast 
on  the  clouds  with  rainbow  colours  around  it  sometimes  occurs. 
This  has  been  referred  to  as  ‘Buddha’s  light’.
