The Blue Mountains is situated west of Sydney and is estimated to be 200 million years old. The early immigrant community once wondered what lies beyond the ‘blue’ barrier from their view in Sydney - the convicts thought that China and freedom lay on the other side. Today, we know that the blue haze hanging over the mountains is a scientific phenomena caused by light reflecting though the evaporating oils from the eucalyptus trees. The mountains are mainly demarcated within the Blue Mountains National Park. |
