'Gardens of Versailles Palace'
The grounds of the expansive gardens were once marshes transformed into terraces and parterres by the brilliant gardener, Andre Le Notre. The techniques used were considered revolutionary at that time. Le Notre also laid the plans for the town of Versailles.
The gardens included water features like ponds and fountains and the Grand Canal where Louis XIV held boat parties. Most statues were sculptured by Charles Le Brun.
'Marie Antoniette Farm Park'
The park that was once Marie Antoinette’s farmhouse is a picture of quiet charm and tranquility today. The extravagant queen, daughter of Empress Theiressa of Austria was blamed for the downfall of the monarchy. She would invite guests to the farmhouse and ‘play-act’ as farmers along with her. This would include dressing up like farmers. |
