The  small  number  of  Tibetan  folks  in  this  remote  part  of  the  world  live  life  like  a  fairytale  -  simple  ceremonious  life  centred  around  religious  rituals  and  their  faithfulness  to  the  gods  and  spirits.  Until  the  advent  of  outsiders  like  geologists,  explorers  and   tourists,  their  world  in  this  lush  forested  valley  nestled  in  the  snow  capped  Minshan  mountains  had  been  relatively  peaceful  and  unperturbed. 

They  ride  on  horsebacks  and  trek  on  nature  friendly  trails  in  their  colourful  outfits.  Their  principle  religion  is  Buddhism  but  a  distinctively  different  branch  of  Buddhism  unique  only  to  them.

The  colourful  rectangular  fabrics  strung  around  the  cabin
  carry  religious  scriptures  and  the  painting  on  the  door  also
  has  religious  significance.  The  village  folks  at  Juizhaigou  are
  mainly  of  the  Benbo  Buddhist  sect  unique  only  to
  these  Tibetans.
 
By  the  sides  of  the  bridge  are  long  banners  carrying  religious
  scriptures  and  so  is  the  gold  gilded  barrel  by  the  river.
 
When  the  golden  barrel  is  spun  and  the  colourful  long  banners
  and  rectangular  pieces  of  fabric  flap  in  the  wind,  they  are
  equivalent  to  reciting  the scriptures.
 
This  village  in  Shuzheng  Valley  is  one  of  the  3  which  opened  up 
to  the  rest  of  the  world.  There  are  a  total  number  of  9 villages,
  hence  the  name  ‘Juizhaigou’ or ‘Nine Villages  Valley’  and  6  are  still
  embedded  in  the  lush  forests.
 
The  life  of  Tibetans  are  centred  around  their  religion  -  their  belief  in
 animism  and  their  reverence  to  the  teachings  of  Buddha. A  level
  of  their  house,  usually  the  upper  level  is  dedicated  to
  worship  Buddha  and  other  gods.
 
Houses  in  the  village  have  been  converted  to  shops  selling
  handicraft,  herbs  and  spices  including  saffron  which  is
  quite  widely  used  in  Tibetan  cooking. On  right (top)  are  the
  religious  barrels.
